Affiliate Marketing in Plain English!

By Sarah

The phrase “affiliate marketing” means different things to different people.  To the vast majority, it is ‘something to do with the internet’, to the vaguely aware it is ‘a way of earning money online – but I don’t really understand it’ and for yet others it is ‘one of those internet scams that doesn’t work’ and of course there are those who are thinking “affiliate what?”!

In actual fact, affiliate marketing is a fully legitimate way of making an income online.  It involves promoting someone else’s product for them and earning a commission for doing so.  These products are usually electronic products that can be downloaded by the purchaser after payment and so you, as an affiliate, don’t have to worry about delivery etc.  Commissions can be as high as 75% in some cases.   Affiliate marketing can be very lucrative and with some work it can be a way of ultimately creating a decent income.  The problem is that it is too often promoted as a get rich quick scheme, which is absolutely isn’t!

Taken seriously, and done properly, affiliate marketing can be an ideal way to work from home.  The problem is, how to do it properly?  Like everything that is worth doing, this is something that is worth doing well and that means, as always, that it is a lot of work.  Setting up an affiliate website that actually works and makes sales is a detailed and painstaking process.  However, once it is done, you will be left with a site that sits there and generates money for you, to the rate of somewhere between a few hundred dollars a month, up to about a thousand dollars a month.

For those of you who are either technophobes, or just clueless when it comes to technology – do not despair.  There might be a lot to affiliate marketing if you were to do it properly, but it really isn’t difficult.  What you need is a basic, jargon-free (or at least to have any necessary jargon explained simply) course, which just shows you which buttons to press and in which order.

In January 2010, I will be launching just that course.  It is aimed at stay at home mums and those who want to work from home.  It will cover, in a “for dummies” fashion, everything that you need to know to

  1. Choose a product
  2. Set up an affiliate website
  3. Drive traffic to your website
  4. Make Sales
  5. Earn some money

If you think that you might be interested, but you are not sure whether you are actually capable of the course, let me ask you a few questions;

  1. Can you surf the net and make the odd online purchase?
  2. Can you send an email?
  3. Can you follow instructions?
  4. Can you commit some time to the homework that will be involved?

If the answer to all 4 of these is ‘yes’, then you are more than capable of taking this course and being successful.

So, if you would like to be considered for the course, please enter your name and email address in the box in the top left of my blog and let me know, you are not committing yourself to anything at the moment, just expressing an interest.

We’ll be starting in the first week of the New Year – make 2010 your year to work from home.

love Sarah

  1. Nice article. But with all the affiliate marketing programs out there, which ones are worth it?

  2. Sarah says:

Great question Gregory. The best ones are the ones that have other promoting them (if they weren’t any good, no one would promote them). Check out http://www.clickbank.com. They have great products to promote.

  3. I found your blog post while searching Google. Very informative, especially since this is not an issue a lot of people are familiar with…

Excellent post going over all the ways which blogging can either help make you money by itself or support a business. I am a blogger and love the ability to express myself. Anyway good post.

  5. Hi, Great post about Twitter. I think Twitter is going to be one of the stronger networks because of the fact that it is supported by so many industries. I also think when Twitter reveals some of it’s new features, returning traffic will go up to show the real growth of the network. Keep up the great work!

With a large array of tools to use like search engine optimization, traffic building, keyword marketing, affiliate marketing, website building and so on, a business can easily find all of this to be overwhelming, time consuming, costly and stressful. That is why many businesses have turned to online marketing packages that include all these tools and benefits in one easy to use advertising hub. These businesses find these packages to be liberating since they’re leaving all the tedious work to professionals that know their unique needs and wants for their online marketing campaign.

  7. Haha!!! Excellent work! Those dudes at your competition (you know who) don’t even have a clue! Keep it up!

  8. Thanks man, got to share this ; )
